Springfield- Marie (Mdawar) Young, 88, passed away on January 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 5, 1938 in Baskinta, Lebanon, Marie was the eldest of six children of the late Mansour and Zakia (Boutros) Mdawar. In 1970, Marie immigrated to the United States, where she built a life rooted in hardwork, faith, and devotion to her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Neil A. Young, who passed away in 2011. A longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield, Marie was deeply involved in the church community. She was known for her warm smile and kind heart, serving as a “lunch lady” at the school and faithfully attending BINGO nights, where she made many lasting friendships. Marie also worked at Burger King, where she enjoyed meeting people, and was well known by coworkers and customers alike for her friendly nature and welcoming spirit. No matter where she was, Marie had a gift for making others feel cared for. She is survived by her loving daughters, Charlene Gancarz and her husband, Daniel, of Granby, and Tanya Alaameri of Springfield, and by her cherished grandchildren, Ivyana Young, Matthew Gancarz, and Yasmeen Alaameri, who were the light of her life. She was predeceased by her two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services for Marie will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee, MA. Calling hours will take place from 11:00am to 12:30pm, with a prayer service to begin at 12:30pm. Committal services will follow in the MA Veterans Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marie’s name can be made to Western Massachusetts Hospice, in appreciation for the compassionate care and support they provide to patients and families.
