Bedford Funeral Home - Bedford Obituary

Marietta (Marie) Camelio Sciaraffa passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at her home in Bedford, MA on October 29, 2025.  Marietta was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on July 14, 1936, to Antonio Camelio and Maria Sperduto.

Marie graduated from Somerville High School; where she was part of the GAA club, the Girls' Glee Club and enjoyed playing sports.  She went on to earn a degree from the Boston State Teachers College.  Later in life, Marie received a master's degree in Remedial Reading from Northeastern University.  Marie's professional career included becoming a first-grade teacher in Vermont, substitute teaching in the Bedford and Concord school systems, and tutoring students.  She later worked for many years as a contract specialist at the Watertown Arsenal and at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Marie moved with her family to Bedford, Massachusetts in 1966, and lived there in the same house until her passing.  In addition to raising her family, Marie took many opportunities to serve others in her community. One example of this is Marie enjoyed working with the girls in her daughter's Camp Fire Girls troop, as their leader. She always gave generously to help any person in need.

Marie most enjoyed spending time with all of her family.  On Christmas Eve, she would have family and friends gather at her house for a great feast of Italian food.  Her other interests included doing ceramics and making figurines to give away to family and friends, watching and cheering on all the professional Boston sports teams, traveling, cooking Italian food, and attending her cousin's flower-arranging classes.  She had a good sense of humor and would write songs and sing them to people celebrating their retirement at work, as well as for other people too.

Marie was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, MA, and sang for many years as a member of the church choir.  She would hum often the songs that she enjoyed.  Being a good Christian was very important to Marie, and this influenced how she lived her life, how she taught her family, and how she treated people.

Marie is survived by her children:  John Sciaraffa of Bedford, Anita Call (Todd) of Missouri, Patricia Uniacke (Kevin) of Walpole and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters Anna Camelio and Margaret Braga, and her brother Frank (Mary) Camelio.

Burial will be on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 9:30 am at the Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford, MA, a procession will leave Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., at 9:15 AM.
