Not sure what to say?

Dear Mrs. Duff,

I just learned of your passing yesterday. You were my favorite teacher in high school (LHHS). I recall how, as a sophomore (wise-fool!), I received back an essay I had dashed off, smugly confident that it would be an A, only to find it exactingly marked and by no means bearing anything close to an A. I approached you after class to find out why my grade wasn't what I had presumptuously (arrogantly!) anticipated. You, with expert authority and patient kindness,...

We were honored by Mrs. Duff's presence at the Class of 1973's 40th Reunion in September 2013. So many classmates were thrilled to chat with her remembering her impact from their high school years at LHHS. She will be greatly missed and remembered as a wonderful teacher and mentor. The Class of 73' sends their condolences to her family and friends.

Marilyn, we will always have "The Women"

I was one of those students who was deeply impacted by Marilyn's teachings. She always encouraged me to be my 'fiery self' and to pursue my passions with wild abandon. Because of her, I entered the teaching field, and after 36 years of changing lives, I am now retiring. I was able to share my recent book with Marilyn a few years back. Not knowing of her illness, it was a shock to hear of her passing. I can honestly say that Marilyn influenced a generation and her legacy will live on for...

I have fond memories of visits to my aunt and uncle' house in California. My prayer is that the Lord will comfort my cousins and their families. Betsy S.

Mrs. Duff was, by far, my favorite teacher at La Habra High in the late 60s. Her encouragement in the classroom led me to a satisfying career in journalism and book editing. So sad to hear of her passing but grateful to have had the opportunity to be her student. My condolence to her family. --Mike Kataoka, LHHS Class of 1970

I hadn't spoken to her in nearly 30 years and shall never forget her introducing me to a life-long love of Oscar Wilde and the rest of the canon of English literature.

My sympathy goes out to the Duff family in this time of sorrow.May the " hearer of prayer" comfort you.Psalms 65:2. Sincerely,Daisy

It's difficult to move on when we've lost a loved one, but we have memories that no one can take away, memories that will bring a smile and ease the pain and sorrow. May the loving support of friends and family help you through this difficult time.
