Marilyn Frances Fortner, Cape Fair, MO, daughter of Earl Edward and Mary Lou (Wheeler) Newman, was born on June 21, 1940, in Forsyth, MO and departed this life on December 31, 2025, at the age of 85.


Marilyn was a lifelong resident of the area, was a member of the Cape Fair Baptist Church, Cape Fair, MO and loved quilting and sewing with friends.


Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold William Fortner; two sons, Danny Fortner and Richard Fortner; a grandson, Michael Asher; one brother and two sisters.


Survivors include: two daughters, Sheila Asher and Teresa McAdoo and her husband, Jason; daughter-in-law, Melody Carr-Fortner; four grandchildren, Matthew Asher and his wife, Brittany, Seth Fortner, Makayla McAdoo and Savanna McAdoo; one great grandchild, Josie Asher; three brothers, John Newman, Don Newman and Freck Newman; two sisters, Earlene Harber and Carol Cook and a host of other relatives and friends.


A visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Cape Fair Baptist Church, Cape Fair, MO. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Steven Gann officiating. Burial will be in Cape Fair Cemetery, Cape Fair, MO under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, MO.
