Howe-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Dearborn Obituary

Marilyn Elizabeth (Craig) Joachim

December 26, 1938 - December 25, 2020,   Age 81

Marilyn was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. She was a graduate of Dearborn High School and Michigan State University; member of Kappa Delta Sorority; member of the Presbyterian Church.

She was a faithful and loving mother to her two sons Jon (Anne) and Jeffrey (Lisa); caring and proud grandmother of Kathryn and Samuel, Ian and Grace. She enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities and attended their many recitals, concerts and performances.  She cherished time spent with family for dinners on weekends; birthdays and holiday celebrations. It was during these moments that she shared her wisdom, her humor, her hopes for the future.  She will be remembered as a woman who was brave and courageous through difficult times and who fought for the things she cared about and the people she loved.

Marilyn was a dedicated and caring Elementary School Teacher for the Crestwood and Livonia Public School Districts. She worked as a general education classroom teacher mainly but also in the Special Education Department. She had a personal connection with her students and colleagues and retired from teaching in 1999.

She had a life-long enjoyment of animals and nature.  Her pet dogs and cats enriched her life for many years and she was also an avid bird watcher.  Her compassion and generosity was shown through her support of the Michigan Humane Society and other charities.  She celebrated her Scottish heritage and visited Scotland in 2002 with her church family from First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Craig, and her two sisters Barbara Jane Craig and Joanne Frances (Craig) Elson.

I love you Mom and you will be forever missed.

Private services will be held at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life Memorial for Marilyn will be planned by her son Jon (Anne) post-pandemic.

Please be sure to sign the guest book and leave an online condolence to comfort the family.

Not sure what to say?

Just heard the news. Loved our time together at Jacobsons. You got me through our shifts. Rip

Marilyn, you were a great friend and customer. God bless.

You were a great friend at MSU. I just heard through the grapevine. So sorry we lost touch, but I cherish our great times together.

Miss seeing you at church. Sorry it's been so long.

You were a great teacher. Bless you.

To Aunt Marilyn, thank you for being the free spirit in our overly serious family. I will remember your impish smile and throaty chuckle. You taught us to laugh at ourselves, an invaluable skill. You are remembered with much love.

You were a great friend at dearborn high. So sorry we lost touch. God bless

You were my inspiration. Can't believe you're gone.

My favorite teacher. Miss you.
