Smith, Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home Obituary

Marilyn Antoinette Mixon was born in Gary Indiana on October 12,1953. She exchanged time for eternity on February 12, 2025.

Marilyn accepted Christ at an early age and remained a faithful servant until God called her home. She attended Marquette United Methodist Church where she was an active and cherished member of the congregation. She believed her faith in God kept her motivated. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Gary and graduated from Roosevelt High School Class of 1971 where she met the love of her life Eugene Mixon. The two married in 1971 and to this union 3 children were born.

Marilyn dedicated her life to being an educator where she taught in the Gary Community School Corporation for over 30 years. She believed the bond and joy she received from her students was priceless. She was quoted as saying “Even if I don’t reach every child, I will never give up.”

Preceded in death by her parents Mason Campbell Jr and Minnie Sue Jenkins. She is also preceded in death by siblings: Michael Campbell and Janice Stone; grandson Brayden Mixon; Maternal grandparents, John Ellis Jenkins, Claude B. Douglas and Judy Bell Douglas; paternal grandparents, Mason Campbell Sr and Maggie L. Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory loving and devoted husband, Eugene; loving children: Crystal (Ronald) Ballard, Eugene (La Keysha) Mixon, and Evan Mixon; brothers: Dwayne (Valerie) Campbell, Bernard (Angela) Bufford; sister, Sharon Dickerson; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; special aunt, Evelyn Peterson; best friend, Debby Cuttino and a host of relatives and friends.

Marilyn will be remembered for how loving and caring she was. She generously gave to all those she loved and those who were in need. There was not a soul who she did not positively impact in one way or another. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
