SIMONS (PORTER), Marilyn M. – Age 90, found eternal peace on Saturday, February 2, 2019 and angels carried her home to the Lord.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Charmaine Shay officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lake Fenton United Methodist Church, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
Marilyn was born in Akron, Ohio and shortly after came to Michigan with her parents.
She graduated from Grand Blanc in 1945. In 1946 she married George Simons, a Marine, who served in the Pacific in World War II. They were married 40 years and they enjoyed traveling in their RV. She was a faithful member of the Lake Fenton United Methodist Church and had also been a member of the Fenton Church. Marilyn had served as the U.M.W. President of both churches. She dearly loved her church family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Grover Schmidt;
cousins, Shirley and John Kilian;
2 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gibbs and Linda Simons;
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Florence Dolza and O.C. Porter; her step-parents, A.M. Dolza and Nona Porter Kimble.
She was extremely blessed to have Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Nelson, as her grandparents, along with her other wonderful grandparents.
She had worked at Krasner Jewelers before becoming a stay-at-home mom.
Many thanks to all of her special caregivers at Caretel, for all their love and kindness during the past 2 years.
Another special thanks to her dear friends, June and Laura, for their continued support and love.
