My condolences to Elliot and your family. I knew Marina in high school music classes and marching band. I was a year or so older, but we shared the same immersive French classes at UC-Riverside, both of us in comp lit French and English. She was smart, creative, and funny. Memory brings up her full throated laugh and love of puns. I've lived many years in Portland, learned she lived in Eugene tho we never got together. Didn't realize she'd moved to Portland. A long-time friend and colleague with a warm heart and a sharp tongue, who made lasting contributions to the field of American Sign Language linguistics and interpreting. We shared a lot of laughter.

Marina and Elliot quickly welcomed my late husband (Jim Ellison) and me into the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene. Before long, I was singing in choir...always happy to be near Marina and hear her beautiful voice. We would drive to/from choir together, often stopping for a drink afterward.
