Mario Jorge Cabral, 58
Devoted Family Man

Mario Jorge Cabral, 58, of Hickory Road, North Attleboro, formerly of Hutchinson Road, Attleboro, died on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his residence surrounded by the love and tender care of his devoted family. He was the husband of Maria Albertina (Barbosa) Moniz Cabral to whom he was married on August 12, 1972.

Born in Sao Miguel, Portugal on April 3, 1952, he was a son of the late Jose Raposa Cabral and the late Maria Almerinda (Linhares) Cabral. Mr. Cabral was raised and educated in his native country of Portugal and he resided there until immigrating to the United States and settling in New Bedford in 1967. In 1972, he returned to Portugal for his bride-to-be and the couple returned to the United States and settled in New Bedford for a short time prior to moving to Attleboro. In 2003, he moved to North Attleboro.

Mr. Cabral was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro.

He was employed by the Robbins Company in Attleboro for more than ten years until his illness forced his early retirement eight years ago. At the Robbins Company, he was known for his happy demeanor and whistling and singing while at work. Previously, Mr. Cabral was employed as a machine operator for Engelhard Industries in Plainville for more than 20 years.

He was happiest when surrounded by his loving family and large circle of friends. Attending and hosting social functions were a favorite pastime.

Mr. Cabral was a man of actions. He demonstrated his love for his family through the things he did for them. He will be lovingly remembered for his constant smile and the satisfaction and joy he received from his family’s happiness.

A “simple man” who truly “got the meaning of life”, he was never one to complain and will be remembered as a “gentle soul” who made an impression on all those he met whether it was for a brief minute, extended hours, many days or even years.

As an ardent cook, he enjoyed making traditional Portuguese dishes for his family to enjoy.

At home he enjoyed gardening and tending to his fruit trees. An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Cabral enjoyed watching football, basketball, hockey and baseball and supporting the regional teams.

Mr. Cabral enjoyed salt water fishing and loved to spend time at the ocean and beaches of Cape Cod, Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island and Horseneck Beach.

Times in the mountains of Northern New Hampshire were most memorable.

He enjoyed “scratch tickets” and had a longtime love for “muscle cars” from his 1967 convertible Mustang when he first arrived in America to his Plymouth Duster and later Monte Carlos. Recently he was able to restore his love for automobiles by getting another Mustang.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, he leaves three wonderfully devoted children: Steven B. Cabral and his wife, Maria F. (Alvares) Cabral, of Lincoln, Rhode Island; Jerry B. Cabral and his wife, Michelle A. (Dias) Cabral, of Haverhill and Elaine C. Dillon and her husband, Eric M. Dillon, of North Attleboro; seven cherished grandchildren: Alyssa A. Cabral and Matthew S. Cabral of Lincoln, Rhode Island; Jonathan M. Cabral, Anthony M. Cabral and Brianna A. Cabral all of Haverhill and Jacob M. Dillon and Austin J. Dillon both of North Attleboro; three sisters: Zelia Cabral, Sisaltina Franco and Maria do Ceu Cabral all in Portugal; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ernesto and Maria Constantina Barbosa of Attleboro; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Raposa Cabral.
