Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Mario Francisco Ochoa, age 42, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Mario was gifted to us by God on September 22, 1981.

Our son, Mario, was very gifted. During his development, we could tell that he was articulate and had a passion to learn a variety of subjects. As he continued to grow, we were amazed by his ability to articulate and understand the world and current events. Mario loved everyone without prejudice. His kind heart was God’s love. Mario grew up in a Catholic home and attended Catholic schools all his life - St. John Bosco, Antonian, and the University of the Incarnate Word. He had a passion for life and gave more than he got. That made him very happy. Our beautiful son was so giving, so loving, and so kind. His endless compassion uplifted not only his family and friends, but the lives of so many in his beloved San Antonio.

His greatest joys came from time spent with family. His everlasting and unconditional love as a son, brother, and uncle brings us peace in our time of indescribable loss. Mario once told me “Hey dad, grandpa came to me in a dream and he said that everything was ok and to let us know not to worry.” I’m sure that someday I will have my own dream where Mario says to me “Hey dad, I am ok and do not worry.”

We mourn his passing and we the Ochoa family thank all of the people that have reached out to us to offer love and support. We couldn’t do it without you. We love you all and God bless you all.

Mario is survived by: Gilbert and Sylvia Ochoa, parents; Marisa Ochoa Valdez, sister; Anthony and Sofia Valdez, nephew and niece; Holly Thoman, Mario’s love and our new daughter, and their two cats, Houdini and Poco; Felicitas Diaz, grandmother, Amarillo, TX; Mark and Theresa Cruz, aunt and uncle, Amarillo, TX; Andy and Alan, cousins, Boston, MA; Tomas and Kristen Cruz, cousins, Charlotte, NC; Danielle and Dominic, cousins, Amarillo, TX; Connie Hernandez, aunt, SA; Julieann Hernandez, cousin, SA; Christine Hernandez, cousin, SA; Trisha Hernandez, cousin, Katy; Jackie Hernandez, cousin, SA.

Special Acknowledgments: Laura Vinton: lifelong friend and confidant; Danny Franco: Laura Vinton’s partner and Mario’s fellow mischief-maker; To all of Mario’s clients, friends, SammisOchoa (Tanya Sammis), and co-workers God bless you.

With Love,

Not sure what to say?

Gilbert, Sylvia, and Marissa. I am so sorry for your loss. Mario was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I remember how happy he was at Marissa’s wedding. My sincere wish is that happy memories of Mario and time spent with him will ease your sorrow and loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest Condolences for your loss, I remembered Mario when Joey went to Saint John Bosco and played basketball together.

Vuela alto Mario. Bendiciones siempre

Gilbert and Sylvia,

I was so saddened to read of Mario’s passing this morning and know how deeply you, Marissa, and his many other family members and friends are feeling the loss from his passing.

I remember when Gilbert and Sylvia introduced me to Mario as a baby. Even then, he was a bright, cheerful soul, much like his father. After reading his obituary, I found he had grown into a remarkable young man with the guidance of Gilbert and Sylvia and sister love of...

Mario, Thank you for being the wonderful friend I met at UIW back in 1999. I enjoyed spending time with you in and out of the classroom. You're infectious smile and passion for life, work, and others made me realize how blessed and honored it was for me to know you. Keep watching over us. Love and miss you friend.

When I joined the University of the Incarnate Word faculty in fall 2001, Mario was one of the first students to get involved in the revival of the school newspaper, the Logos. Because of his interest in film production, Mario volunteered to review movies and cover the entertainment beat. As a writer, he made major contributions to the newspaper. But he also was doing public relations, I later learned, through his personal networking with the people he met and interviewed -- a...
