Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Marion Leroy “Bugs” Dalene––husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa––passed away at home in Riverton, UT on November 25, 2023, surrounded by family.

Marion was born on September 21, 1934 in Thermopolis, WY to his parents Lester Dalene and Jeannette Campbell. He grew up in Grass Creek, WY with his brother Daniel. He also had two older brothers, Edward, and William, but both passed away as infants.

He met his wife of 69 years, Sandra Dalene, in Lovell, WY. After months of only seeing each other on weekends, the two decided to forgo the long commute between them and get married. Soon after their marriage, Marion and Sandra started their family while he continued working in the oil industry, and they were able to travel around the country over the course of his career. After his retirement, he moved to Utah to be closer to family.

Marion accomplished many things during his life, but his pride and joy was always his family. His stalwart dedication to his Heavenly Father and devoted service to others were the essence of his character. Many knew him as a bishop, a stake president, and a sealer. He served as a sealer in the Oklahoma City, Jordan River, and Oquirrh Mountain temples. He loved helping others and never hesitated to lift those around him in whatever way possible.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lester John Dalene, Jeannette Subeth Campbell, his siblings Edward Dalene, twin brothers Daniel and William Dalene, his son-in-law Brett Aikele, and his daughter-in-law Holly Mayberry Dalene.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, his children Ron Dalene (Joyce), Jack Dalene (Barbara), Susan Aikele Hampton, and Debbie McDonald (Peter), his foster daughter Marci Clarke, his 18 grandchildren, and his 35 great-grandchildren, all of whom miss him dearly.

A viewing service will be held for Marion on December 1, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Broomhead Funeral Home located at 12590 S. 2200 W Riverton, UT 84065. The interment will take place at the Riverton Cemetery located at 1500 W 13200 S Riverton, UT 84065 directly after the funeral service.

Not sure what to say?

Bugs Dalene was the man who could get things done no matter what needed to be done. His leadership and technical skills were evident in the oil field, on construction projects, and in church. He knew how to assess a problem and fix it quickly The Gillette 1st Ward was a fledgling ward meeting in a three or four-room first-phase building when My family moved to Gillette in 1973. At that time Gillette was a boom town with a power plant and several large coal mines under construction. ...

What a treasure, it was to do sealings in the temple of our God with Brother Dalene. He was so full of love, compassion, friendliness, kindness, an ideal servant of our heavenly father. It was a privilege to have learned from him, and from his example of love and kindness and faith. Dixie Taylor

A wonderful man- sealer at our daughter Shannon’s temple sealing about ten years ago.

What an inspiration he was. Truly a disciple of Jesus Christ and such a great example to the McArthur family. Grant & I loved to home teach him & his wife. You'll be greatly missed.

Marion was our favorite neighbor on Riverton. We loved his sense of hummer .
He was a great example to us, of love of family and service to others. Will miss him ,

A truly great man who will be missed by many. Had the privilege of working with him for many years. He was a blessing to all who knew him. RIP my friend.

Thank you for being our Campbell family historian. Our treasured thoughts will remain forever.

He was a great human. He married my wife and me many years ago and also baptized me. One of my favorite examples when telling grandkids about people and their faith. Our prayers to the family for comfort. As he was a blessing to all that knew him.

He was a valiant person, so kind and riveted on living the gospel he will be sorely missed
