Not sure what to say?

My apologies for the eggregious tardiness of sympathy and condolences for Coach Hazel's family and friends. Coach Hazel was a teacher during a very troubling time in my life. He was there in his own way, despite the fact I wasn't the type to talk about anything. He was a beacon of caring, hope, and teaching for me as his student. I have been out of the Greenville/Anderson area for many years. Today is 9/11/23, which is why I looked Coach Hazel up. I remember sitting in his class and watching...

Coach Hazel was the best teacher I ever had. Even after finishing high school and into college, he didn't cease being there for me when I needed him. I visited him a few years before his death and the hospital and that conversation still has a profound impact on my life.
He will be missed. My condolences to the family.

My apologies for the eggregious tardiness of this edpression of sympathy. Being In Colorado Springs, news like this travels slowly. I pray that his immediate and extended family, while likely prepared in mind but not in heart, has found in our Maker's loving embrace the strength, comfort and encouragement they have needed. Like others who may yet show up on this message page, we went to both JHS and HS with Mike. We played sports with him. We created with him a club called Rho in part to...

Coach Hazel was a good teacher and a nice guy, and I always enjoyed being in his classes. Better still, his son David introduced me to gaming, and I spent a memorable evening gaming with David, Coach Harry Sprouse, and Coach Hazel .

My condolences to all of the Hazel family, and a wish to you, Coach Hazel, to rest in peace.

I still have the basketball that I purchased from Coach Hazel in 1978!!!

My heart is heavy because he was a great teacher. I loved his class at Wren. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Know that God will be with you each step of the way!

Our condolences from SCSoccer and the Brookland-Cayce Bearcat Soccer family.

Always a gentle man - always ready with a joke or prank - remembered so fondly! Prayers for Kathy, Michael, Sarah and rest of family!

Hazel Family,

It was with sadness that I learned of Coach Hazel's passing. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of Mike's many friends and peers in the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association. I pray you find God's comfort and peace during this difficult time. I know that his legacy will live on through the lives of those he influenced in such a positive way.
