Marion F. Henderson, a.k.a. "The Clock Man", 99, passed away February 18, 2012 at the Indiana Masonic Home. He was a resident of Franklin. He was born April 17, 1912 in Johnson County to the late Widdess Henderson Sr., and Alma (Carter) Henderson. Survivors include a son, Dwight (Ethelene) Henderson of Edinburgh; a daughter, Carol (David) Hammer of Northville, NY; a grandson, Jason (Pamela) Hammer; and a great granddaughter, Lillian Hammer of Johnstown, NY. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Dinn Henderson; three sisters, Margaret Brockman, Mabel Porter, and Marcia Henderson; and two brothers, Widdess Henderson and William Henderson. He graduated from Edinburgh High School in 1931 and received training as a skilled machinist from Purdue University in 1942. He was in the U. S. Army during World War II. Employment included Arvins, Neitzels Machine Shop, and as a skilled machinist for 31 years at Allisons Division of General Motors, retiring in 1971. Mr. Henderson was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107, F. & A.M. and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He was also a long time member of the Lions Club. Johnson County residents will remember him as "The Clock Man". In 1976, he began restoring the Johnson County Courthouse clock, after years of dormancy, to its perfectly running condition. He volunteered many hours in this endeavor. His machinist expertise enabled him to obtain or make the necessary parts for the clock. He was extremely proud of this achievement. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Calling hours will take place from 4-7PM, Wednesday, at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Vandivier-Tudor Chapel, 951 N. Main Street, Franklin. A Masonic service will follow at 7PM at the funeral home. Rev. Charles Stanley will officiate a funeral service at 10:30 AM, Thursday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Marion F. Henderson Scholarship Fund, to be established for the benefit of Franklin Community High School students, and mailed to Mutual Savings Bank, 80 E. Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN 46131.
