LACKER, Marion Pharis Spears, 81, of Hanover, Virginia, daughter of the late Sholto Spears and Hester Gamboe Spears, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William Lacker; her son, Jeffrey Lacker; her daughter, Jennifer Lacker; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Halberstadt; her grandsons, Benjamin Lacker and Daniel Lacker; and a host of friends, relatives and knitting companions. She starred as Madame Arcati in Noel Coward's Blythe Spirit, but gave up the theater for a career as a librarian and special assistant to several presidents of Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H. A 1951 graduate of Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, she was an active Phi Mu alumna. A lifelong devotion to fiber arts culminated in multiple ribbons for knitting at the Virginia State Fair. In recent years, she volunteered for the Friends of Atlee Library and was a member of the Hanover Woman's Club and the Knitting Guild Association. A memorial reception will be held Friday, January 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

Not sure what to say?

Hi Uncle Bill, Jennifer, Jeff & Lisa,
I'm so sorry to hear of Aunt Mern's passing. My prayers are with all of you. What I'll remember most about her is her infectious laugh. What a gift she was to all who knew her!

Dear Lacker Family,

I had the joy to know Marion through knitting. I can still see her in my mind's eye working on an Alpacha cardigan during the last guild meeting I attended. Marion always lit up the room with her graceful, welcoming heart. No question was considered too mundane for her, and when she answered, you felt like she was totally focused on teaching you - her work was always willing to wait. God truly graced us with Marion.

Sincerely,

A Hanover...

To Jeff and Family ~

Sincerely,
FRB-R retiree
