Marion and I and our respective wives were fellow graduate students at Indiana University during the late 1950s. He was a model student and a delightful friend. Thinking back on our times together brings a sense of joy and gratitude for having known him.

Professor Rappe was an inspiration to us all. It was a privilege and a pleasure to study under him.

He taught Western Civilization II and The Rise and Fall of Nazi Germany, a terribly important course which he always dreaded teaching. The title alone explains his sentiment.

I am sorry I didn't know him better but am thankful for the opportunity to have studied under him during my undergraduate years [1985-1989].

Dr Rappe was my teacher in the 1970's at San Francisco State. I took several courses from him. His clarity and his principled positions influenced me greatly. He encouraged creativity and fostered unusual interpretations of history .

He was a superb teacher of whom I was very fond and who changed my understanding of life.

I've many times wondered how he was since we fell out of communication in the early 1980's.
