Marion Earl Woodbury Jr.

Over the Christmas Holiday, our family said goodbye to a Woodbury that embodied the meaning of "Southern Gentleman." I called him Uncle Marion, although he was my Father's first cousin. We do that in the South. Anyone older immediately falls into the "Uncle" or "Aunt" category. Southerner families insist on ignoring reality and leaning towards the affection for one another that composes our "hospitality." I did not know Mr Woodbury personally, but as an employee of MUSC, I knew him. If I ever encounter him In the hallway, he would always acknowledge me with a smile and a nod, as if he knew who I was. This acknowledgement as an employee meant a lot to me, even though he likely did not know me but knew me an an MUSC employee. Sort of like when James Edwards was there. We were a family, all working towards the same goal. It made me feel important even if he did not know my name. Thank you Mr....
