I was in Miss Getzelman's Home Ec class at Harvey Scott elementary school for 7th and 8th grade. She was a wonderful teacher and loved by everyone. I knew she was special on my first day with her. When the classroom phone rang, she would hold the phone near her heart rather than to her ear.

Miss Getzelman was my home ec teacher for two school years (1964 and 1965) at Harvey Scott. I loved being in her class--she was a wonderful teacher and friend to her 12-13 year-old students. Even now, I still use some of the things she taught us, every week in my own kitchen. I wish I could have known her in my adulthood. She sounds like she was as much fun in her later years as she was back then. She was a true treasure.
