Not sure what to say?

Aug 25 '67, Wallace Theater, Fort Belvoir, following Skip's graduation from OCS; Mrs Herres & Danny to my mother's left, in front of Skip & my father

Fred, Dave, Danny and your families, I was really saddened to learn of the passing of your mother - my godmother, and want to extend to you all my deepest sympathy. I have so many happy memories of your mother, and of our families together in Japan and Arlington, the Simmons family visit to the Herres home in Northfield in June 1969, and even my wife, Alison, and my visit to your parents home in Columbia in 1981 and to the lake cottage. Your Mom was a wonderful person. I won't ever forget...

Marie Locke Herres was a legend. She was my dad's first cousin, and one of the most interesting persons I've ever know. I feel so blessed that we became close these last few years, and I had the pleasure of spending many happy hours with her, talking about our family, and her very creative father, Walston Locke. She had such a zest for life, and a sense of humor to match. I'll always remember her bright blue eyes that sparkled when she smiled, and her gentle voice that made you at once feel...

To all the Herres family, I send you my love and share your sorrow. Your mother was a second mother to me growing up and I will always remember her as full of love, laughter and class. Her outer beauty was the reflection of the even greater beauty within.

Dave and I extend our sympathy to the Herres families. Marie was such a gracious and loving lady, she will certainly be missed in our community.

Dear Dan, Rebecca, Mary Alston, and Gabriella,

I am so very sorry to hear about your Mom and Grandmother. I remember her as a very kind and graceful lady. May your fond memories of her give you a measure of comfort and peace in this very sad time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and with Dan's brothers and their families.

Thinking of you Danny and all of your family today. Your Mom was so lovely, talented, elegant and kind. She always looked fabulous and made everyone around her feel welcome. I am honored to have known her.
