Coker Funeral Home - Sanger Obituary

Marjorie Gay Alsup, 76, known to most as “Margie,” passed away at her home in Gainesville, TX, on November 5, 2024.  She was born on July 12, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas, to Opal Lee (Harris) and Frank Lewis Barthold.

Margie taught school for twenty-five years in the Muenster, Gainesville, and Pilot Point districts.  She loved teaching and loved her students.  Some of her students were second-generation.

She had a few hobbies, such as antiquing, attending garage sales, and collecting antique rose plates of all different patterns and dolls.  Additionally, she loved going to movies or dinner with friends.  She loved animals of all sorts and caring for them.  She always enjoyed visiting her daughter’s home, where she could feed the goats.  Margie enjoyed watching Charles Stanley and Wheel of Fortune with her son.

Margie was a great cook.  One of her favorite things to do was cook for her children on birthdays and fix their favorite desserts.  Margie was a wonderful mother and loved her children immensely.  If you knew her, you knew she was selfless, always putting others before herself.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Pauline Brummitt, and three brothers, Wallace Barthold, Lewis Barthold, and Johnny Barthold.  Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Angie Gaylynn (Alsup) Barber, and husband, Randy of Denton, and son, Alan Dale Alsup of Gainesville; two sisters, Sherian Dyer of Gainesville and Martha Lawson of Denton; one brother, Wilbur Barthold of Valley View; and several nieces and nephews.  Two step-grandchildren,  Shelly Stone and Dusty Barber, both of Aubrey, and four step-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Barber, Makynlee Barber, Landon Stone, and Hudson Stone, also survive her.

A graveside service for Margie is at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Valley View Cemetery in Valley View, Texas.  Pastor Jeff Langley will officiate the service.

Please offer your condolences to the Alsup Family in our online guestbook.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear this. Over the last few years, I have been thinking about Marjorie often. I am so grateful for her. She was a wonderful woman, I am so grateful my dad had her in his life so that she was a part of mine. I think about funny memories about visiting her when I was little often. Visiting her house that had all things a little girl loves, the floral comforters lined with lace and the pink velvet couch, it was so girly and I adored it. She would let me play with her antique dolls,...

SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOST, I REMEMBER GOING TO A VALLEY VIEW FOOTBALL GAME WHEN MARGIE WAS CROWN I BELEIVE HOMECOMMING QUEEN, SHE WAS SO PRETTY THEM AND NOW.

Sorry for your loss.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

Margie, We pray that God will bless your loved ones with his divine healing comfort. We will miss you and never forget you.

Deepest sympathy for your loss. We were classmates and good friends at Valley View for several years. God Bless her family.

Alan, may God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Margie raised a great son and friend.

I remember when Margie was a little girl. She was the mascot for our drill team at Valley View school. On the days that we practiced, I would go to her classroom and get her to practice with us. She was such a pretty, sweet little girl and everyone loved her. Love and prayers to her children and family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
