MAJORIE D. MAY TAUGHT US ALL TO FISH!

Wind Gap Sixth Grade students, teachers and Marjorie D. May became a “family” that took root in 1971 when sixth grade sold Barbie cheerleader outfits as a fund-raiser for a Peace Corps School in Woe, a village in Ghana. From the modest sum of $84.18 in 1971, the sixth grade raised a total of $10,574.46 over the 26 years “the family” was intact. Marjorie May was a giant among Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. She raised through a variety of local projects well over $100,000 for Peace Corps Partnerships overseas. She was the leader and pillar of the Laurel Mountain Returned Peace Corps group. I enjoyed her numerous letters to me with her creative ideas about service. She will be deeply missed.

I was formerly Eleanor Amy from Pen Argyl, and, as many others, have admired her for what she has accomplished over the years. She has been a blessing to all of us, and a pleasure to have known her. We should have many more like her in this world. God Bless her remaining family.

I remember Miss May as the teacher that brought the world to Pen Argyl High School when I was a student in her classes in the late 1950's. I still remember the photos of Stonehenge and how it was so inspiring to me that, when I visited it in the 1990's, her excitment about bringing it to us were most fond memories.

A teacher i loved dearly.

As a student in the 5th or 6th grade, I remember learning of Marjorie's missionary work. I remember raising money to help her with the schools in Africa. What a wonderful woman of God she has always been. God Bless her extended family. May you find comfort in knowing what a great contribution her life was to everyone around her.
