Marjorie Sargent Obituary

Marjorie Kirkpatrick Sargent, 69

CAPE ELIZABETH - Marjorie Kirkpatrick Sargent, 69, passed away March 10, 2018.

She was born in Portland, Oct. 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Donald and Alice Shaw Kirkpatrick. She attended Waynflete School, graduating in 1967; and Wheaton College, graduating in 1971.

Marjorie worked as a legal secretary for Pierce Atwood and most recently for Bernstein Shur.

She enjoyed visiting with her sons and their families, especially her four beautiful grandchildren whom she cherished. Marjorie absolutely loved the summer, whether time spent gardening, at the beach or pool, eating out, or just visiting with friends sharing stories over a bottle of wine.

Marjorie was a kind and generous person who touched many hearts. She was taken from us far too soon.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leighton B. Sargent Jr.

Marjorie is survived by her two sons, John Greenwood of Seattle, Wash., (his son, Christian); and David Greenwood of Annapolis, Md., (wife, Dr. Jennifer Greenwood; and children, Emma, Allison and Jackson); brother, Brad Kirkpatrick, of South Portland (wife, Barbara); and life partner, David Freeman.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at State Street Church UCC, 159 State St., Portland. The Rev. Jeanette Good will officiate. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home. For further information and to sign Marjorie's guest book, please visit: www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.

I will always remember the wonderful friendship we shared. The amazing times in high school and then when you were the first woman to attend Bowdoin College. We had such amazing times there and at Bailey's Island. I'll remember our summers at Sebago at both our houses and all the laughs we had. You will be sorely missed and I am so glad for the times we got together with reunions and lunches. My heartfelt sympathy to your entire family. Love, Deb

The skies are one star brighter for lovely, kind, thoughtful (and funny) dear Marjorie. We were so fortunate to have her in our class at Waynflete, and in our lives, though not nearly long enough. Blessings for the family. I am thankful to have known her.
