The Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory Obituary

Marjorie passed away in December 2017. Marjorie was a resident of Pittsburgh, Kansas at the time of passing. After graduating from Indiana University with a 60-credit Master of Fine Arts degree, she taught a year at the University of Kansas with pioneer CARLYLE SMITH before accepting a teaching job at Pittsburg State University (then Kansas State College of Pittsburg) in the Art Department at the same time as her husband, JAMES B. M. SCHICK, joined the History faculty there. An edited version of that talk will play at a memorial service planned for June in Kansas City to coincide with the first showing of a work of hers at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in the "Unexpected Encounters" exhibition.

Not sure what to say?

Dear my professor Mrs. Shick,
You will be in my heart forever.

Very sad to hear about the passing of Marjorie. She was a great teacher, mentor, and an inspiration to many students. While I was at Pitt State I had the pleasure of working very closely with Professor Schick. She was tirelessly creative and embodied the word artist. I will always be indebted to her and grateful for the time that I spent studying with a living master.

Marjorie was my Art Mother, you could talk to her about art, the day to day life at PittState. We all knew that she would be in jewelry classroom late in night if we had problems with a piece or life we could count on her to give it straight to us. She gave a gift that I couldn't repay, that finishing a idea is just the beginning.

I was blessed to have had Marjorie Schick as my Art Professor at Pitt State 1981-85 with my Commercial Graphics degree. She was truly a walking piece of art, both with her unique perspective and her larger than life wearables. She was my all time favorite art teacher and her influence will live in me forever.
