Agawam, Massachusetts
Marjorie Jean Sherman, nee Louth, departed this life on Monday January 12, 2015. She was the third child of the late Sarah Jane (Abbott) Louth and Herbert Louth. Her sister Dorothy (Louth) Hall and her brother Geoffrey also predeceased her as did her beloved husband David M. Sherman who passed away just this past October 31, 2014. Born in Springfield, MA, Marjorie graduated from the former Technical High School, Westfield State Teachers College and Springfield College. She was a skilled artist and spent 39 years educating in Agawam schools, where she had a tremendous impact on her many students. Marjorie’s story is incomplete without including David, the love of her life. They met at a young adult group at South Congregational Church and were married in 1961. They moved to Agawam in 1963. David had a long career at Loomis School (now Loomis-Chaffee) in Windsor, first as manager of the bookstore where he mentored the students who worked there. He rose to the position of Business Manager and retired in 1996. They shared a love of Great Danes, giving home and affection to 6 over the years. They both leave behind many friends to whom they were very dear, and David’s niece Doris Sherman Helms Korona. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 am the AGAWAM CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street. Following that she will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. A reception will be held at 1 pm in the Guild Room of the South Congregational Church, 45 Maple Street, Springfield. Memorial remembrances in honor of Marjorie may be made to the Agawam Senior Center Activities Program or your favorite charity. Memorial remembrances in honor of David may be made to the Agawam Public Library.

Marjorie Sherman was my 6th grade teacher and my friend. As a teacher, she was firm and kind, expecting your very best. We kept in touch over many years. I am so sad that she is gone, but I'll remember her always.
