Oh Mark, I will always miss your face. Loved sitting & talking with you at Cynthia & Dick's house. Thanksgiving will not be the same. Sending love to Linda, Josh & Bethany.

Mark was an active member of the Texas Association of Creative Writing Teachers, and we are all mourning his passing and thinking about his family. I met Mark when I was an MA student at Texas A&M and feel lucky that I was able to become a colleague and friend via TACWT years later when I was teaching at Texas Tech. Mark was always kind and respectful and welcoming of me, even though I was in a younger, less experienced generation of writers and academics than him. I will never forget his...

I am so sorry to hear about Mark passing. Janet and I are new to Ledgestone so I didn´t have the opportunity of getting to know Mark and Linda very well. But, my brief observations were that Mark was a special and accomplished person. My prayers are with Linda and the family.

When I was an assistant professor at Texas A&M, Mark occupied the office directory across the hall from me. He almost immediately became one of my mentors and, eventually, a friend. He was a true teacher/ scholar. When he moved from TAMU to South Texas State many years ago, we lost a great asset and strong voice for our English department and university. I am deeply saddened by his death, and my heart goes out to Linda and the family

Mark was my dear friend and colleague during his years teaching at Texas A&M in College Station. He was one of the most creative, thoughtful, and compassionate men it´s ever been my honor to know. I especially admired how forthright and caring he was with students and friends alike. My condolences go out to Linda and Josh on their profound loss. The first photo below was taken during a day trip to Lake Somerville around 1980; the second is of Mark introducing the writer Rudolfo Anaya in 1989.
