Not sure what to say?

An update, Dr Boucek: My son Bill, one of your best patients, died 8/11/24, after heart/liver transplants. Who would have thought he would make it to 41, with four kids of his own. You and your team set him up for a decent life expectancy. You have my eternal respect and gratitude. Hope you can greet him and show him the sights.

As I am writing a book about our son and his life as a heart transplant, I came across this obituary. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Boucek for his medical knowledge and research because he is the primary reason our son is alive. Our son received his transplant at 2 months of age in 1994 and he turned 29 this year.

Dr Boucek is still one of my favorite people. Unforgettable. Before my son´s Fontan surgery when he was two, Dr B urged me to do something fun with him. Went to the zoo and saw the giraffes at their eye level, from an upstairs observation room, our point of view having been shifted, for the better, by Dr B. My son turns 40 this year.

Our condolences to the Boucek family. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr Mark Boucek in 1991; where our daughter Crystal was flown to Loma Linda, California for HLHS, where she received her heart transplant.

Crystal was very sick when she got there and was taken off the transplant list, Dr Mark gave her the name Crystal the Pistol because she was a fighter and pulled through to receive her transplant.

Crystal rejected her transplant in November 1992, we lost our hita on...

Dr Boucek aka Mark was a great boss while I was his secretary/echo tech for 5 years in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Utah. He was always there when a cardiac ultrasound was off. He was good at making sure I understood what I was seeing. We typed many articles

Mark,
We just finished our 31st heart transplant at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Without you this never would have happened. You were one hell of a guy, doc, dad, husband, friend, partner and fishing buddy. You are still touching lives and saving them eight years after you left us all here wondering how it could go so fast. I miss you, and know somewhere you are looking down on us with that smile and gleam in your eye, knowing we got it right. You told me "you don't need a...

My son is now 30 years old and a father of 4. Thanks to Dr Bouceck and his amazing talent. I was so sad to hear he had to suffer so much. He was a wonderful human being.

For the family of Dr. Boucek:

My son turned 30 this week, thanks to the world-class, life-saving caring of Dr. Boucek. I never dreamed that Dr. Boucek would pass first. My son's life has been a miraculous gift, and I loved that Dr. Boucek knew this better than anyone. He was such a gift to his patients. I will always be grateful for his intelligence, down-to-earthness, and caring. He is a true hero.
