Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Mark passed peacefully on Saturday October 19th while surrounded by his family after a long period in St. Luke’s Hospital MICU. Mark was the beloved husband of 37 years to his wife Amy (nee Cole), dear father to Amanda & Jenn (Ethan Everhart, future son-in-law), dear brother to Randy (Lori), uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, nephew and dear friend to many.

Mark was born in St Louis on February 25, 1955 to Marian & Raymond Buehler. He was raised in Kirkwood, MO and was a Kirkwood Pioneer, graduating from the Class of 1973. Mark went on to the University of Missouri and graduated in 1978 with a business administration degree and as a brother of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mark met the love of his life, Amy, in southern Texas; the two were happily married on May 23, 1987. A new career opportunity brought them back to the St Louis area where they raised their two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Jenn. Together, they loved to spend time with their family & friends, cook, entertain, and travel.

Mark worked with the Halliburton Company from 1978 to 1989 as a Sales Engineer, Regional Manager in South Texas, and ending as a Senior Sales Engineer. Mark transitioned to the paper industry in 1989 where he first worked with Champion International Corporation as a Senior Account Executive and Market Manager. Mark continued to work in this field (Unisource Worldwide, Inc, International Paper, Verso Corporation, and Veritiv) until his well-earned retirement in 2019. Mark worked hard and played hard; he enjoyed building relationships with coworkers and customers alike and created many lifelong friendships from business best conducted over dinners, rounds of golf, work trips, and Cardinal games.

During Mark’s short but full 69 years, he was able to dedicate much of his time to his various passions and interests.

Mark was a Mason at Del Mar Lodge of Corpus Christi, TX & also a Shriner with the Moolah Shrine Temple in St. Louis. He enjoyed being a weekly volunteer at St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children, and participating in & organizing BBQs at the hospital and Children’s Hand Camp.

He was a long-time member of Manchester United Methodist Church in Manchester, MO where he and his family enjoyed being involved in numerous ministries and activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Apple Butter, and the MUMC Christmas Tree Lot.

Mark and Amy proudly built their retirement home in 2019, where he was the President of the Eagle Estates Homeowners Association.

Mark was an avid golfer & racquetball player; he was an active member of the Metro St Louis Seniors Golf Association; any day he played golf was a good day in his book. He was a lifelong fan of Cardinals baseball and also a long-time season ticket holder.

Mark will be best remembered for his infectious, trademark laugh and his unique ability to love big & live big. Mark was the life of the party wherever he went; he touched many lives with his storytelling, his innate ability to make others laugh with (or at) him, his bartending and hosting capabilities, and overall compassion for making others feel loved and valued.

The families would like to express their immense thanks to Dr. Maged Haikal and the amazing Nurses & Doctors in the St Luke’s MICU and 7th Floor teams that cared so deeply and compassionately for Mark.

Services:  A memorial service will be held at Manchester United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00 am; visitation will precede from 9-11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mark are greatly appreciated and may be made to either Tunnel To Towers or St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children in his memory.  Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

Amy, hi this is Steve Sloan. We met years ago when Mark and you took me and my then wife Melody to dinner in downtown St Louis. I have been friends with Mark for about 35 years. I worked with him in the paper business. I just heard of his passing this evening. I am so sad and sorry for you and the girls! I loved Mark and our friendship and he will be truly missed. RIP Mark!

Amy, I was so very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. You and your girls have been in my thoughts. Everyone at the BMB Tailgate this Saturday will raise a glass and shout "MIZ" "ZOU" in his memory. Sending you peace.

You were a great guy, a good friend and a wonderful participant in the Indian Princess program. Will miss you!

My sympathies and condolences to the entire family. My fellow Shriner brother and friend.
