Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood Obituary

Mark Wayne Chaffin, Sr., age 72 of Elwood, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis unexpectedly following an accident.  He was born August 2, 1953 in Elwood the son of, Roy Alvin and Patricia Ruth “Pat” (Vautaw) Chaffin, Sr.  Mark grew up attending Frankton schools and graduated in 1970 from Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood.  He worked for many years in sales and distribution, and then later worked for R & L and Midland Impact Company.  Mark also enjoyed working on computers and tinkering on anything electronic.  When his parents became older, Mark was a devoted son who took care of their home, meals, laundry, and everything he could.  He found great joy in the simplicity of life, which he considered his very own hippy style.  Mark loved to spend time fishing and teaching others the enjoyment of fishing.  More than anything, Mark will be remembered as a man who loved living life his own way.

Mark is survived by 3 children, Mark (Crystal) Chaffin, Jr. of Elwood, Brandy (Joseph) Green of Frankton, and Jason Chaffin of Kokomo; 3 siblings, Roy A. “Timmy” Chaffin Jr. of Gas City, Theresa E. (Brady) Deckard of Bradenton, FL, and James L. “Monty” (Tresa) Chaffin of Elwood; 7 grandchildren, Gunnar Green, Jonny Neese, Atlas Chaffin, Avander Chaffin, Brycen Couch, Maxwell Russell, and Chelsea Lee; 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe Johnston, and Gabe Lee; and several nieces and nephews.  Mark is preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation will take place and no services will be held at this time. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Mark’s funeral arrangements.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
