Not sure what to say?

Mark was one of the first that welcomed me to Springfield High School when I transferred in. We became fast friends. Mark always had a great attitude towards life and a big smile on his face. I have many fond memories of our time together. It is evident that he has touched many lives in a positive way. My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends and I look forward to the day we can share our reward together.

I was so saddened to read of Mark's passing. A flood of memories from our time at SIUC came to mind. What an experience to be away from home during those turbulent times. Mark was a great friend, and always, always had a smile for everyone. You will forever be a wonderful memory of our early adult years. RIP Mark, and thank you.

Mark and I went to Springfield High School together and played football together. He was a true friend. Last time I saw Mark was at our 50th High School Reunion and he was one of the many Vietnam Era Veterans that I reconized at our ceremony held at the Illinois Vietnam Memorial and his picture was posted on the front page of the local paper at the Memorial. HE WAS A TRUE FRIEND AND FELLOW WARRIOR. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND AND I WILL SEE YOU IN VALHALLA AND YOU CAN BUY THE FIRST ROUND. ...

Rest in Peace.

Mark was justifiably proud to be a part of the Bluebonnet Volunteer Fire Department, which was later absorbed into Bastrop County's first Emergency Services District. They were our own local first responders who in 2009 worked so hard trying to save the life of my friend Dan Richards, carefully cutting him from his mangled pickup after a collision caused by a DWI. And in 2011 the BBVFD literally saved our neighborhood as a wildfire burned right up to the end of our own street.

I worked with Mark at IRS, where his ever-present smile could take the edge off even the most difficult of days. I was surprised & delighted to learn he was one of my neighbors when I moved to my current residence. Vicki, my condolences go out to you and all your family members; Mark left a beautiful legacy in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.

I worked with Mark at the IRS for several years after he hired me in 1988. He was a great boss and friend to me and my family for over 20 years. Condolences from all of us on his passing. We were all saddened by the news.

Mark was such a kind, loving person. I had the utmost respect and admiration for him. His bright light and big smile will be missed tremendously, but the knowledge that he’s dancing with Jesus now is awe-inspiring. My sincere condolences and much love to Vicky, his family and friends.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
I will never forget Mark, as a good neighbor, brave firefighter, and his willingness to always be available for anything needed at Cedar Creek Methodist Church. Teaching VBS there with him was always a delight.
