John Defrates, served as a United Nations official, including with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He was the companion of Pamela Daley. Services will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

I have much to say about Mark, though it is not my desire to reveal aspects of his life which were so amazing to many others. His history as a intellectual, spiritual, and leader are well documented and I can add nothing further. I met Mark during a time of turmoil; and I was refreshed by his openness and friendliness.
