Not sure what to say?

Phil, thank you for sharing your memories of dad--they mean so much to us. That first lesson he taught you in "real politics" made me smile. I will cherish these memories of dad and your friendship forever.

At yesterday's Thanksgiving Dinner, we shared memories of Mark, my son, daughter and I. He's a common thread in our lives, and our good memories are a salve to the pain of his absence. Mark and I both loved baseball, and we shared the experience of my first World Series, 1971, games 3 and 4 in Pittsburgh. We played hooky from our Kenyon classrooms. The Pirates twice beat the Orioles. The last game we shared was also between the Pirates and O's, this time in Baltimore, on a Father's...

Phil,
Thank you for writing—your note means so much to us. We of course knew about Dad’s nickname, but did not hear about his fantasies of a cleverly named Costa Rican bar. We know how special your friendship was, and how much you meant to him. We too, have that photo framed and have very fond memories of you—and you and him together. We will share a drink in spirit.

Colleen, Erin and Danielle

On my dresser is a picture taken by Colleen at your first house in Alexander when Erin was a toddler. That photo is daily evidence that Mark lives a constant presence in my mind; he is fondly remembered by my children too. Mark's deep irony was captured in a fantasy about a future: owning a bar in Costa Rico, "Witz' End." I will share another drink with him today, tomorrow, etc.
In sorrowful condolence of a shared loss...

Dear Family of Mark,
I am so sorry to learn of his passing. While in graduate school in Boston we were friends. In fact, he insisted I attend my graduate school graduation from Leslie. I will attach some pictures from those days for you. I remember him fondly. May his memory be a blessing.

Sorry to learn of your loss this week.
Though I lost contact with Mark I have fond memories of him at Kenyon. One of the Mag 7, fraternity brother, and friend, Mark challenged us all to be better academically. He did me the honor of serving as a groomsman in our wedding party 49 years ago tomorrow. Unfortunately military service and several transcontinental moves broke the chain of communication.
Mark will always be in my memories.

Mark was one of the most remarkable men I've ever known. A roommate, fraternity brother, drinking buddy, lost friend, one of the Mag 7, and winner of innumerable Friday night name-that-tune contests on WKCO (with a slight assist from me). Smart, fearless, and straight-ahead.- I'm so sorry to have lost contact until this news hit just this afternoon.
As we Navy types say, "Fair winds and following seas, my friend." Peace, I have this watch.

Rob,

Thank you so much for your note and condolences. It means a lot to his family to hear from you and your kind words about our dad.

- Erin and Danielle Greenberg

Our paths crossed and intertwined for decades. Mark always saw politics for what it is, and saw friendship as the greatest good. He was a beautiful, true friend whom I will miss most dearly.
