Not sure what to say?

Just learned about Prof. Mirsky's death (March 2, 26). Sorry to hear the news. Plenty of memories. Helped me get into CCNY in 1983. I eagerly read his novels and Fiction. Wasn't a good student, but his classes were fun. We had class at his loft and at the West End Cafe. I was reading "Puddingston" this very evening. Can you believe it? Condolences to Mrs. Mirsky and children.

I met Mark back in 2001 when I worked on my dissertation project about the sage of Harvard , Harry Wolfson. Mark immediately shared all his memories and feeded me with information about Harvard in this period. We both esteemed R Ben Zion Gold and had a similar taste of literature. He will be unforgotten

Condolences from the Kerrigans from Mallorca, Spain. Anthony Kerrigan, our father, was a good friend of his, and his books still have a priviledged place in our bookshelves.

We got to know Mark at Temple Israel in the summertimes at Nantasket Beach over the last 20 plus years. His knowledge of the Jewish history of the Boston area, the neighborhoods, including the Rabbis, Synagogues and politics was immense. He will greatly be missed! May his memory be for a blessing. Moe/Wendy Bergman and Family

Professor Mirksy was the most influential, caring and honest, teacher I had during my studies at CCNY. His stories were a pleasure to hear. He would also read anything you sent him, quickly, respond to emails at all times of the day and night, and was helpful with anything asked. One of those souls you wish would live forever. I will remember him always as being larger than life and full of joy.

He will be so missed. He was such a great champion of his students, me being one of them. He taught me so much. I studied with him in the mid 1990s, but we never lost touch and I saw him so recently to share my most recent writing success. He was one of a kind, a truly brilliant writer, thinker and person.

I am so sorry about Mark MIrsky's death. "From the Deep Blue" is not just the best essay ever written about Jewish Boston; it's the best essay about Boston. I knew Mark briefly a long time ago when we spoke about an article I'd written. He was generous and encouraging, and what also stands out is the energy and care he brought to every conversation.

We will miss this vivid, brilliant, and loyal friend. For decades we've shared a Jewish life -- as well as a passionate engagement with art and literature. Love to Inger, Israel, and Ruth. May his memory be a blessing. Deborah Rosenthal and Jed Perl
