Mr. Mark Charles O’Gorman, 45, of Island Pond died suddenly Monday May 7, 2007 in Newport.

He was born on June 22, 1961 in Newport a son of Muriel (Maw) and the late Nicholas O’Gorman.

He graduated from North Country High School class of 1979. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served from 1979 to 1981. He later received an Associates Degree in Human Services at Community College of Vermont.

He was employed by the Vermont Department of Corrections for eight years at the Northeast Correctional Facility in Newport where he was a Correctional Officer.

He was a former member with the Brighton Fire Department and EMT Services, Newark Fire Department, Boy Scout Leader, and Life Guard.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and golfing.

He is survived by his sons Michael O’Gorman of Massachusetts and Quincy Hackett of Island Pond, by his mother Muriel O’Gorman, sister Catherine Kinney and her husband Alson of Island Pond and a brother James O’Gorman and his wife Christine of Rutland, a newhew Austin O’Gorman and a niece Kalli Kinney of Island Pond, aunt Bertha O’Gorman of Island Pond and a uncle William H. Wells of Florida and by his companion Becky Hackett of Island Pond. He was predeceased by his father Nicholas O”Gorman and a niece Taini Mae Kinney.

Friends may call from 6-9 PM Monday May 14, 2007 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad Street, Island Pond where honors from the Department of Corrections will be conducted. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday May 15, 2007 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond with the Rev. Kenneth Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery with full military honors. Should friends desire contributions in Mark’s memory may be made to the Brighton Fire Department, Island Pond, Vt. 05846 or the family would appreciate food donations to the American Legion in Island Pond for the reception following the interment. Dear Muriel and all,
I was so sorry to hear of Mark's death. I have been out of touch with all of you for a very long time, but my love for all of you has not diminished one little bit. I quickly remembered the many wonderful times we all had together, on Front Street, visiting the Meades, etc. Mark was such a joy, and a dear friend to me even though he was only 7 or 8 at the time. I was so saddend to here of the loss of Mark. It has taken me a wile to right this. I realy did not know what to say. Murail you know how much Make loved and admired you. His children and YOU were his world. I rember the first day i met Mark he spoke very highly of you, and even the last day i saw him he was still talking about advice you gave him and i told him it was good advice. I have never seen a man have more respect for his Mother & family than Mark. He loved all of you and would do anything for any of them.
