When Mark Oscar Edwards married his wife, Kim, her family adopted him as one of their own. "When Kim and Mark got married, it seemed like everything fell into place. We started enjoying life a lot better," said Kim's brother, Matt Dayton. Edwards, 40, of Unicoi, Tenn., died June 9 in a non-hostile incident. He was based in Erwin, Tenn. The 22-year veteran was a hard, diligent worker who took his Bible around and worked as a mechanic in civilian life. "He was always a giver, never a taker," said Kim's aunt, Angela Dayton. "He'll be most remembered here I think for the love that he spread and a heart so big it would never fit even in the country of Iraq." Kim Edwards spoke to her husband by satellite phone shortly before he went to bed on the night of his death. He had been quarantined after coming down with a fever. "He was homesick," she said. "In my eyes, you couldn't ask for a better man. ... He was real good to everyone, and he treated everybody equally." Survivors include a son, Drew Edwards, and a stepdaughter, Whitney Dayton.

Mark with kids in Iraq!

Mark,
Someday we will be rejoined in Heaven up above, but while I'm still on Earth I will cherish every memory of our precious love. Somehow those precious memories will have to carry me through, until the time comes for us to walk hand in hand for an eternity together me and you.
I love you more,
Kim
