Dear Mr. Root,
I was so very saddened to learn of Mark's passing. Several things came to mind as I thought of you both. First, how many Madison Elementary field trips we shared. Oh the good ole days! I also thought of the challenges Mark must have faced. My son Trey was diagnosed with cancer when he was just three months old. All of those feelings flooded back to my mind as I read Mark's obituary and your poem. I hope all of the joyous times spent with him offer you and your family...

The Life of My Son by Mark R. Root, Sr.

The life of my son began in the spring.
His first squeals of breath, a beautiful thing.

His brightness and smile could not be ignored.
A most pleasant child, loved and adored.

He had some slight stumbles, throughout all his stages,
but kept his composure, like notes on the pages.

He found his life's calling, went forward with verve,
unaware that his dreams, and his future would curve.

Mark Was a fantastic young man, he was always there to lend a hand, share a smile or a hug. He was generous with his time and his heart. I will miss him always.
