'I Could Go to Him'

The hours were grueling: up at 4:30 a.m., home at 7:30 p.m. during the week, plus an overnight shift on Friday and back to work on Saturday at 3 p.m., until 7 a.m. Sunday. But Mark Schwartz, 50, an emergency medical technician, needed money for the house, the family's first, bought three years ago in West Hempstead, N.Y., and the vacations once a year with his wife, Patricia, and two children. The Schwartzes would have been married 25 years on Sept. 19, said their daughter, Jennifer, 23.

"I always knew that I could go to him if I had something wrong with me, and he'd know a little bit more about it than I did," Jennifer Schwartz said. "It was just like a thrill; he'd get so excited when he was going to help somebody."

Her brother, Andrew, 20, is studying to be a paramedic. "Dad always wanted to be a paramedic, but he never had time to go to school for it," she said. "My brother's going to fulfill his dream."

"It's just hard because my dad went to work that day, and he wasn't sick," she said. "He was going to come home. I guess that wasn't in his plan."

Not sure what to say?

MARK another 9/11 is coming around 22 years since it happen .I was their as a city cop but a few years back you where my boss at HUNTER AMBULANCE .i MAYBE A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER NOW 5 YEARS BUT STILL AN EMT ON THE FRONTLINES .buT I MISS THE GOOD TIMES THE LAUGHS FROM YOU AND YOU TOOK A CHANCE ON ME .I will never forget you and I make sure 9/11/01 is not forgoten!

I never knew Mark, I was only two years old at the time of 9/11. I am a 22-year-old volunteer EMT in Virginia and my captain gave each of us that are on duty on 9/11 a name of a first responder. As a way to honor those who fell in the line of service that day on the 20th anniversary. Tomorrow I will wear a photo given to me by my captain of Mark on my sleeve while I am on duty. After reading about his story and the impact he had on those around him I am very honored to do so. Mark truly...

I did not know Mark personally, but I was an EMT for 25 years in New York and Connecticut and I had just retired from serving when 9/11 happened and I could not believe what I saw that morning when I was working at the doctor's office in Connecticut. When I found out that there was an EMT from Hu ter Ambulance Corps that had perished when the towers collapsed, I tried to find out who it was an d if I knew him because I had worked for the volunteer corps that served the Larchmont/New Rochelle...

My name is Jeffrey Desreuisseau and at the time of the 911 tragedy, I was a medical sales representative providing medical supplies to Hunter Ambulance. I always enjoyed visiting the great people at Hunter Ambulance but especially enjoyed my conversations with Mark. He would always say “Where are my donuts and coffee?” which I would bring when visiting. Mark and I would have a coffee (and some donuts, LOL) and discuss all sorts of things. He would mostly talk about his kids and family. ...

As always on this day, I'm thinking about Mark and his family. 9/11/19

I stopped by today because had a tough week with my PTSD. My original message sent 10/26/2005...Today in my 9/11 Memorial room I came across one of Mark's Hunter Ambulance patch's displayed with his picture, bio. His friend and co worker Al Levine was on my mind today He gave me the patch. We spent 9/11/01 on phone as day unfolded. My day is lessened now as I am still here. For Mark, St. John 15:13 " NO GREATER LOVE". Thank you....

After meeting Andrew & his mom, I commit each year to memory the love this family has for Mr. Schwartz. Ten years. I am sure it still hurts as the 1-9 years. My company lost several people as well, but I have grown so attached to Mr. Mark. God bless and I'll be thinking of you always.
