Mark-Shall-Obituary

Mark Lindsay Shall

Obituary

SHALL, Mark Lindsay, finished his last exercise routine on Monday afternoon, July 7, before his heart gave out. Only 59, he always committed every ounce of effort to each activity, whether exercise, a difficult computer programming problem, or the love of his country and his family. Mark was born to Walter Matthew Shall and Annie Butler Shall in Richmond, Va. on May 28, 1949. They moved to Chicago, where he attended grade school and Maine High School. A 1971 graduate of Centre College in Danville, Ky., he went on to earn an M.A. in Mathematics at North Carolina State University in 1973. For 23 years, until 1998, Mark successfully operated Shall and Associates, the pension actuary business he founded in Richmond, Va. After he sold that firm, he worked as a website programmer with his brother, Michael, at Sunburst Publications in Richmond. Mark is survived by and is dearly missed by his wife, Mary Shall; his twin brother, Michael; his sister, Patricia; and his mother, Annie. A private graveside service will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. Friends and associates are invited to join family and colleagues for a memorial celebration of Mark's life on Friday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, Va. 23005. Informal attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Medical College of Virginia Foundation to support research of heart disease.

Not sure what to say?

My sister Patti just sent me the news of Mark's obituary. I'm so sorry to hear the news about his death. My prayers and sympathies go out to Anne, Patsy, and Michael.
I am Kitty Bell's daughter and have been in Florida since 1989. My husband Mike died in Nov. 2007.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Mark, but I was at the YMCA shortly after his death occurred. Mark's passing teaches us that life is too short and too precious. My condolences go out to you. I will keep you in my prayers.

You do not know me but my daughter who lives in Richmond told me about the tragic death of Mr. Shall. She was at the YMCA when it happened. Please accept my sincere condolences. When we lose someone we love, they leave a part of them with us, so that where ever we go, they are with us and we are not alone. God bless you and keep you always in his loving care.

Dear Mary
