Mark Stowe Obituary

Mark Eugene Stowe
Mr. Stowe, 48, of Charlotte, died peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. He was the beloved son of Nellie Kennerly Stowe of Charlotte and the late Daniel Eugene Stowe. Mark had a broad love and knowledge of music and artists. He was a music expert, you might say. Not only did he enjoy listening to music of all kinds, he had a keen appreciation of it. He was a 1981 graduate of West Meck High School and later from CPCC and was employed by Sprint as TDD/TTY operator.
He leaves to cherish his memory sister, Teresa Eubanks and husband, Mike of Mount Holly; nephew, Evan Eubanks of Charlotte; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and the cats he adored, Snowball and Noozie. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Forest Lawn West Chapel with Pastor George Sherman officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of Levine and Dickson Hospice House for all of their care and concern for Mark.
The family requests memorials be made to Levine and Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service. On-line condolences may be placed a www.forestlawnwest.com.

I have known Mark for a little over 22 years. He was like a big brother to me. He always had such a good spirit about everything. We had many long conversations about so many different things. I will never forget the time that Mark and my dad met me in Florida and we all went to the Epcot Center it was so fun. One day while we were there we were walking somewhere and Mark saw a music store and he was like lets go in there so we did and it was almost a 2 hour adventure. LOL. He was truly passionate for music. I am blessed that through the years that even though I lived so far away Mark felt that he could talk to me about a lot of things and I was there to listen. When I lived in Charlotte and was around Mark he always was so nice to me and he was such a fun person with such high energy. He was a very special person to me and he will be deeply missed by me and my dad. My only regret is that I didn't get to see Mark before he went on to a better place but I am so happy that my dad got to visit. Goodbye Mark and I will see you again someday and until then you will remain in my memories and my heart.

Pictures Jon took of Mark from the day he held our daughter

Valerie Van Curen (Allen)

March 16, 2012

Mark was flame that burned as brightly and with as much heat as the sun above.
He was a force of nature, fierce and beautiful. He had the unique ability to make time stand still; when you sat entranced caught up in the web of his stories, minutes became hours. Passion was his life mate, and music radiated his soul. Knowing him was a blessing, but losing him ... devastating.

My former husband, Jon, introduced me to Mark almost a decade ago as we were dating, and he became an instant fixture in the life of our family. I looked forward to hearing his voice on the other end of the phone line. His hello - unlike any other - always brought a smile to my face. Even though he was hundreds of miles away, it always felt like he was in the room with you. Whenever we traveled to Charlotte to see Jon's family, it was one of the highlights of our visit to see Mark, especially for my husband, who had been friends with Mark most of his life.

Losing Mark has been hard on everyone, especially for Jon. He was tormented with the fact that he was unable to see Mark during his final days. Due to our youngest child's illness, he simply couldn't make it to see Mark in time.

Now, as Jon prepares to travel to Virginia to meet with the others who share in the loss of this beautiful soul, it hits me that he is finally gone. I am comforted by the image of Mark that I hold in my mind. I can see him as clear as day, cradling my infant daughter in his arms a few summers ago as we visited. They stood together in the bamboo forest under a canopy of birdsong. The heady scent of wisteria filled the air and the temperate light of the dusk filtered through the leaves. His eyes blazed with impish delight as he showered our daughter with tender kisses.

We will miss you, Mark.

My heart wells for the loss of Mark. It is so terribly hard to even write this. Life with Mark for 23 years was truly amazing. Even though we had ups and downs our ups were so high that the downs would evaporate. We shared so many experiences together volumes of books would have to be written with no boredom on any page. I was so happy to be included every Holiday and more with his beloved family and him. I was so happy to see Mark before his passing and he too was very happy to see me. It was so hard to leave to go back to Texas, our bond was so strong and still is. I told him his Dad and my son Sandy will be looking to pull him on in to heaven and it would not be too long that he better watch for mine. Nellie, Teresa, Mike and Evan I do know that your are missing him and will continue to miss fantastic Mark as you know I will. Love Billy xo

Mark, you were a truely unique and amazing guy whom I've thought of often over the years. You befriended me, (like some many others) without judgement or attitude when we were just 18 years old. Man, time with you will never be forgotten and I actually long for such happy, carefree times. I miss you and know you're going on to be that happy, loving, accepting bright spot in another dimension. I'll always hold close the years of laughter, dancing, long talks on the phone and comfort in being your friend.

Mark and I became friends when I was still in high school in the late 80's. I met him through Cheryl and KD. I used to work at Camelot music and he would come in for hours and definitely made work more fun! We have been to many shows together and lots of parties. He turned me on to so much music over the years and I will never forget him. He was there for me when my Dad was sick and that certainly brought us closer. I remember a glam rock themed party we had at my house once for either KD or Cheryl's birthday and I got upset with Mark because he threw SO MUCH glitter confetti all over the house. It took more than a year probably to get rid of it, if ever. I'd find it in the cracks of the hardwood floors!I really wish I had that glitter in my hardwoods now.
Thinking of you and your family. We'll all miss you. Rest in peace
Mark. Love Joy Gray

I met Mark in 1984 and, with a flash of those electric blue eyes and that deep, beautiful voice, I was utterly smitten. He quickly became one of my best and dearest friends, and for 28 years we shared so many laughs, and secrets, and so so so much music! He was a great mentor for me, because he just knew exactly what music I would like, that I'd never know about if it weren't for him. I will miss his mischievous laugh, our long, late-night phone calls (because there was never a short one with Mark - he could talk) and all the spontaneity he brought into my life.
My condolences to his family, and all the other friends who will miss him too. What a life force we have lost!

Mark and I went to school from the 4th grade through High School. When my parents finally let me order 8 track tapes through Columbia House (8th grade probably), I called Mark, and asked him what my 12 selections should be, since I didn't listen to the radio that much. Nazareth, BTO, Eagles, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, Styx, just to name a few. All classics today and all still some of my favorite music. You could say he saved me from disco :-). From time to time, when I hear these songs I remember the 8 tracks, and the call to Mark. I am sorry for your loss.
