Mark David Sutherland, 62, of Monongahela, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born June 21, 1954 in New Eagle, the son of Clyde and Betty Walters Sutherland, who survive and reside in Valley Inn.
Mark had been employed by Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel at their Allenport Plant, until it’s closing. He then owned and operated the Fisher Heights Amoco station for several years. Currently, he was employed by the borough of Donora, where he worked for the street department for the past twenty years. He was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Church in Monongahela and the Donora Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of the New Eagle Mens Bowling League and was presently bowling with a league at Brunswick 51 Lanes in Belle Vernon. Mark enjoyed Nascar racing, with Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. being two of his favorites. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going fishing and hunting at "Camp Monongahela", his cabin in Emporium.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Vicki Maser Sutherland  with whom he celebrated forty two years of marriage on September 7, 2016; daughter, Tracy Benney and husband Aaron of Monongahela; son, Cory Sutherland of New Eagle; two grandchildren, Alexander and Gabriella Benney; two brothers, Gery Sutherland and wife Janice, and Scott Sutherland, all of Monongahela; mother-in-law, Dorothy Maser of Eldora; two sisters-in-law, Daryle Bonneau and husband John of Portage, Michigan, Lorrie Paul and husband Bob of Cabot.
Friends will be received on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 7-9 PM and  Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Funeral prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Monday, October 10, 2016 in the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Damien of Molokai Parish with the Rev. William Terza, pastor as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Donora Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 811, Donora, PA 15033.
