Mark Robert Sutter Ph.D.

CUYAHOGA FALLS – Mark Robert Sutter, Ph.D., 49 passed away suddenly on December 30, 2011 at his home. Mark was born on January 15, 1962 to Robert and Barbara (Hayes) Sutter. He was an Eagle Scout with Palms in Troop 152, Cuyahoga Falls Jaycee's outstanding young citizen in 1977, graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1980 and received his BS, MEd and PhD from Kent State University. He was currently the Director of Academic Services for Elyria City Schools after having taught high school mathematics and social studies for 6 years, was a junior high/middle school administrator for 8 years, a central office administrator for 13 years. He was a member of the Elyria City Schools Endowment Board and the United Way of Greater Lorain County Board, Kent State University Honors College and Educational Administration Alumnus of the year. Kappa Delta Pi nominations committee chair, member of Phi Delta Kappa, participated in the Harvard Institute for School Leadership and the Leadership Development Program at the Yale Child Study Center, helped direct the Legal Update for School Heads Program at Kent State University for 13 years, Adjunct Professor at Ashland University, reviewer for numerous Department of Education Grants and scorer for Educational Testing Service administrative exams. He was active in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development "ASCD" where he was an Ohio ASCD and ASCD member for 21 years, and Ohio ASCD board member since 1998, serving as diversity chair, guaranteed representative to ASCD Leadership Council and affiliate president. Served on ASCD Board of Directors (2008-2011); member of the Nominations, Legislative, Constitutional Review and Finance Committees and participated in and presented at ASCD annual conferences. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. He is survived by his parents, Barbara and Robert Sutter of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Mary A. and William Blake of Hoover, AL and their children Ashley and Brandon and good friend, Daren Marshall and his son Christopher of TN. He will be truly missed by all of his family, friends and co-workers. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday January 5 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls. A Funeral Service will be conducted Friday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Dr. David A. Baker officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
