Mark Terrell Obituary

Terrell, Mark Cavitt

80, passed away on November 13, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida. Mark was born in El Paso, Texas on August 1, 1945, to Frank Watson Terrell and Jackie Hickman Terrell. Mark graduated from El Paso High School in 1963, following in the footsteps of both of his parents as well as most of his aunts and uncles.

Mark was a retired partner of KPMG LLP. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1967 and joined KPMG (Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co.) in 1969 upon being Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. He was admitted to the KPMG partnership in 1979.

From 1985 until 2000 he served as the Office Managing Partner of four KPMG offices; El Paso, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; St. Petersburg, Florida and Tampa Florida. Mark was selected by KPMG to attend KPMG's Partner Development program at Harvard University as well as the International Partner program in Burgenstock, Switzerland.

From 2000 to 2004 Mark was the Partner in Charge and Executive Director of KPMG's Audit Committee Institute (ACI). In this role he established the ACI mission and strategy. ACI continues to be recognized as a preeminent resource for information on issues of importance to audit committee members as well as those individuals who interface with audit committees. Mark spoke extensively on both audit committee and broader corporate governance issues.

Following retirement from KPMG in December 2004, Mark participated as a Faculty Member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) including serving on the Advisory Board of NACD's Corporate Directors Institute. Additionally, he was invited to join the faculty of the University of Miami as an Adjunct Professor in their Graduate Accounting Program.

In August 2006 Mark joined the Board of Directors of Comverse Technology Inc. (CMVT). During his tenure on the board, he served as Chairman of the Special Investigation Committee, Chairman of the Audit Committee and Non-Executive Chairman. Prior to the corporate reorganization that resulted in the spin-off to shareholders of the primary operating company, Comverse Inc. Mark also served on the Board and Compensation Committee of Verint Systems Inc., a significant publicly held subsidiary of CMVT.

Mark served on several not-for-profit boards in each of the communities in which he practiced, including President and Chairman of Junior Achievement of El Paso. He served on the Board of Trustees of Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts from 1998-2008.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Hilda Terrell and his daughter, Alyson Cavitt Terrell who were both at his side at the time of passing. Mark is also survived by his caring siblings, Linda McNamee and Keith Terrell. He will be missed by his loving family and friends.
