NORTH ATTLEBORO - Mark Edward Vandette, 32, of Grant Street was surrounded by his devoted family and friends when he passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the loving husband of Melissa (Andrews) Vandette for over 7 years.

Born October 7, 1979 in Attleboro, he was a beloved son of Edward and Sandra (Jones) Vandette of North Attleboro.

Mark was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and a 1998 graduate of North Attleboro High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2002. Mark has worked as a projects manager at CSI (Contracting Specialists Incorporated) in Attleboro for the past seven years. He was a standout football player and track star at North and was inducted into the Attleboro Area Hall of Fame as a wide receiver. He also played football, ran track and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at WPI. He was a devoted friend and spent much of his time raising money for charities and helping people. He committed time and money for many years to the American Cancer Society and it's Relay for Life, helped at the Cocktails for Courage fundraising events and was a committee member on his great friend Captain Kyle Van De Giesen's (USMC) Memorial Fund. In October Mark ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. in honor of Kyle. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Mark was also a devout Christian who loved sharing his faith and is described as a "Warrior for Christ" for that devotion. He was an active communicant of St. Mary's Church and ministered to many people through his faith.

Mark also loved the outdoors and making his house a home for his family but above all was an amazing father to his two young children, Grace Ann (4) and Kallan Rhys (2) Vandette. He is also survived by a grandmother, Jean Jones of North Attleboro; a sister Nicole and her husband Dan Crowley of North Attleboro; a brother Garrett Vandette of North Attleboro; several nieces and nephews and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 29 from 1-6 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral Mass to celebrate Mark's life will be on Monday, July 30 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro. The Reverend David Costa will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls. Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry that I missed this and I do apologize! I would not have know if I had not spoken to Michael Achin this evening at the wake of Dr. Philip B. Sibilia. Please accept my most sincere condolences!

To the Vandette Family,

My condolences to all of you for your lost. Mark is at peace now.

Dear Sandy & Family,
Sorry to hear of your loss. I didn't know Mark but from reading the guest book, he must have been a very special person.Take comfort in knowing that you brought up a fine young man.

To the entire Vandette family, I want to extend my sincere and loving condolences to all of you. Even though I had a chance to meet Mark only for a few weeks near the end of his life, his grace, faith in God and strength while battling his illness has had a profound impact on my life. I will never forget this beautiful man, and if I am blessed to have children and grandchildren someday, they will hear about how Mark changed my life for years to come. He was the person I needed to get to know...

Dear Eddy, Sandy and Vandette Family,
You are all in our prayers. Though we did not know Mark, we know he had great parents. The McMahon and the Vandette family all grew up together, having such found memories, strong faith, and love showered from so many friends and family our hearts go out to you all. May God your Father surround you in His love.
