Not sure what to say?

So very sorry to learn of Mark's death. My memories of Mark are just as others have said- endlessly kind, cheerful and welcoming. Though I only knew him through scientific conferences-NABS/SFS- still he exudes hospitality- for example I vividly recall an amazing home-cooked dinner he somehow pulled off in his conference suite for a very happy crowd of guests. An unlikely personality to be so known & respected for his passion for oligochaetes! It warms my heart to think of him after passage of...

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to Mark´s family. I knew Mark through the Society for Freshwater Science. Mark was an exceptionally kind and generous human being, always interested in how everyone was and in sharing his enthusiasm and insights on science and living! Upbeat and full of humor, ever ready to lend an hand at a moment´s notice. And, always with a camera capturing people and moments. He celebrated the big and small stuff of life. He will be greatly missed.

Donna (Binger) Higa, along with daughters Traci Gustavson & Vicki Tiede want to share our heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

So sorry about Mark´s passing. Please accept our condolences.

Mark was an awesome example of a father figure and mentor to my son's scout troop. He has made lasting memories for my son Zach and I. A truly great man!!

We, Steve &Debbie Rugg, really enjoyed having Mark (Faith) as a long time neighbor. Always easy to find as he enjoyed working on house where he could chat with all passers by ! We´ll miss that that Also we were lucky enough in the summer to hear and see him in the BBQ band. Such a fun group!

I worked closely with Mark at the INHS for many years. We went on many adventures together: driving in the state vehicles across the four-lane and two-lane roads of Illinois, wading in the Kankakee, boating on the Rock, Illinois and Mississippi, scuba diving, as well as together writing (and debating points of grammar, etc.) many reports of those adventures, going to scientific meetings. Mark was a natural naturalist. He was in his element out in the field. He was an expert on worms but...
