Marleen Jean Voss, daughter of Myron “Popps” and Margaret (Ginger)Voss, was born July 6, 1954, the oldest  of five children.  She received her education in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1973.

Marleen moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where her son, Charles was born.  She spent many years in Rapid City before returning to Spencer. While living in Spencer Marleen worked at various retail and convenience stores as well as Dollar General.  She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had served as President.

Marleen loved dirt track and NASCAR racing, attending local dirt tracks and watching her younger brother, Marlin race.  She enjoyed score keeping  and taking tickets at the Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minnesota and at the Buena Vista Raceway in Alta, Iowa.  During the 80’s Marleen also liked watching the Go-Kart races.  Marleen didn’t know a stranger and would visit with patrons at the track.

During the winters, Marleen would knit and crochet blankets for all of her friends and family.  She loved her family and had a real gift of remembering important events in their lives, such as birthdays and anniversaries.  She knew all of the family history.  Marleen also enjoyed painting ceramic pieces and attending school functions of her nieces and nephew.

Marleen passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Spencer Post Acute Rehabilitation Center in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 70.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Margaret Voss.

She is survived by her son, Charles Voss (Brenda Geitzenauer) of Humboldt, Iowa; brothers, Merle Voss (Kris) of Hermosa, South Dakota and Marlin Voss (Linda) of Fostoria, Iowa; sisters, Martha Kilmer (Randy) of Linn Grove, Iowa and Mary Pollock of Fostoria, Iowa; grandchildren, Christian Voss and Kaylee Newkirk of Everly, Iowa; nieces and nephew, Trina Maurer, Erin Burley, Kendra Hanson, Madison Griffin, Heather White, Tabitha Goodge and Brian Pollock; several great nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.

Not sure what to say?

Marleen was my neighbor, girl scout leader, and our family friend for as far back as I can remember. There was never a time that I saw her when she didn't take time to ask how I was and how my mom was. She was one of the good ones. I'm so sorry for this loss. Thoughts and prayers to Marlene's family from ours.

Marleen was a kind sole. She always had a smile on her face and loved to engage in conversation. I'm so glad she was able to attend the Class of 173 Class Reunion in June of 2023. This was the last time many of our classmates got to see and interact with Marleen. I miss her and send her family my thoughts, prayers and condolences.

We were so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

So very sorry, Marlene was a classmate of mine. She was quiet and very kind. Prayers to all.

Many memories of Marleen from the races at Jackson and running into her in Spencer. Prayers to all in the family.

Our deepest sympathies are with Marlene’s family. Although we only saw her at Ginger family reunions it was always nice visiting with her. Prayers to the family, Cindy (Jones) & Dick Dorniden. Distant cousins through my Mom, Charlotte Ginger Jones (Ralph & Eva Ginger’s daughter))
