William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Marlene Anne Sokol, 77, passed away on February 15th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a long hard-fought battle with kidney disease.

Born in Windsor, VT on February 17th, 1944, she is the daughter of the late Alan and Cora Branch. Marlene was raised in Springfield, VT where she graduated from Springfield high school with the class of 1962. She continued her education at the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing where she graduated in 1966 with her RN degree, she then began her career at Albany Medical Center. While in Albany, she met her husband of 54 years, Joseph F. Sokol Jr. After 6 weeks of knowing each other, they married on November 5Th, 1967. They moved to Saratoga Springs in 1971 to raise their family. She then started her 32-year career at Saratoga Hospital in 1975 before retiring in 2007.

Marlene went into nursing to be able to share her knowledge and compassion for helping others. Marlene was the most generous, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a gentle soul who always wanted everyone around her to be happy. Marlene loved having her family together especially around the holidays. She had a passion for cooking and always looked forward to her next new recipe. She enjoyed vacationing in Maine, Myrtle Beach, New Hampshire, and Lake George alongside her family. Marlene was happiest when she was spending time with her two granddaughters, Mikayla, and Rachael. They’re relationship was inseparable, and they will forever hold the memories close to their heart.

Marlene is survived by her husband; Joseph F. Sokol Jr, her 3 children; Christine Sokol and Gregory Sokol of Saratoga Springs, Victoria Davila of Charlotte, NC, her 2 grandchildren; Mikayla and Rachael Toussaint of Saratoga Springs, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law; John and Caron Goetz of Clifton Park, and several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff at the Rubin Dialysis Center, Saratoga Hospital, and her team of physicians.
