While I never met him, in a very challenging time in my life I found great solace in writing. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I read Marshall and admired Marshall long before I met him. It turns out he was as even more fun to know - a great talker, charming, insightful and a connoisseur of not only music, art, and visual culture but also of fashion. In short he was as interesting in real life as in his books, a rare combination. I will miss his presence on the Upper West Side and seeing him at numerous gatherings.
My condolences to Shellie, to Danny and to Eli.

It has been a great privilege and a great experience to have been his student. He was truly special and truly inspirational. I will always think of him and his remembrance will always bring me warm emotions. Best wishes to his family

Dear Shellie, Danny and Eli,
We were greatly saddened to learn of Marshall's sudden passing, and know that this must feel like a terrible hole has been left in your hearts. We wish we lived closer and could be among the friends who will support you in the days ahead.
Until we see you, please know you are in our thoughts and that, in the Quaker phrase, we are holding you in the light.
with love,
Barb, Mark and William Taylor
