Martha E. "Marti" Barton

February 22, 1927 - August 26, 2024

Martha E. "Marti" Barton, 97, of Kearney, formerly of North Platte, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2024, at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney where she had resided for the past three years.

Martha was born on Feb. 22, 1927, in Berkley, Kentucky, the daughter of Edger and Dovie (DeWene) Lindsey.

Martha attended school and grew up in northern Illinois and southern Kentucky. She married Ivan K. "Bud" Barton on April 16, 1945, in Arkansas, and they had two children together. The family moved to Hastings for six years and then to North Platte for 73 years. Martha was a "Rosey Riveter" during World War II. She was a member of the First Christian Church in North Platte and sang with a wonderful voice whenever she was asked for church, funerals or other functions. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts in the 1950s for several years and was a member of the North Platte American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and an excellent cook. She was also a self-taught accomplished and amazing artist. Martha will always be remembered for feeding her family and friends with the Word of God and unbelievably great food and unconditional love.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Edger and Dovie; husband of 43 years, Ivan; sisters, Rebia Jackson and Vergina Crider; and brothers, Frank, Jimben, James and Nick Lindsey.

Those left to cherish Martha's memory are her son, Charles K. "Chuck" Barton of Westminster; daughter, Elizabeth E. "Beth" Barton of Kearney; grandchildren, Cody K. Barton and Colt N. Barton both of Westminster; great-grandson, Elijah K. "Eli" Barton; and ex-daughter-in-law, Ellen Barton Chestnut.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of North Platte. Online condolences may be shared at carpentermemorial.com.
