BLIGHT, Martha Anna - Of Burton, age 80, died Saturday, July 12, 2003 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road in Grand Blanc, Pastor Wayne Wentzel officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation 5-8PM Sunday and 1-4 and 6-8PM Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Blight will be at the church from 10AM Tuesday until the time of the service. She was born in Flint, Michigan on August 1, 1922 and was a resident of the Flint area all of her life. She married George F. Blight on May 12, 1945 in Flint. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1987 and formerly a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mrs. Blight was a member of the Outreach Program and leader of 55+ Senior Group, and active in many other church activities. She was a member of EL ETH (TURTLES) Sorority and McLaren Auxiliary. For decades Mrs. Blight was a dedicated community activist and the stalwart administrative assistant for the recreation programs of the Flint Public Schools. Mrs. Blight loved sports. She was employed by the Flint Board of Education for 28 years, having spent 25 of those years with the Baseball Program, retiring in 1986. Surviving are 2 sons, James G. Blight and wife Janet Lang of Milton, Massachusetts, David W. Blight and wife Karin Beckett of Amherst, Massachusetts; 2 grandchildren, Julie Lynn and husband Robert Diazoni of Santa Clara, California, Benjamin J. and wife Judith Blight of Santa Clara, California; step- grandson, Peter Beckett and wife Alison Sprout; 5 great-grandchildren, Derrick, Erica an Devin Diazoni, Joseph and Timothy Blight; step-great-grandson, Peregrine Beckett; sister, Dorothy Holland of Davison; sister-in-law, Beverly Schaard of New Town, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews. She was prceded in death by her husband, George F.; 2 brothers, Frederick and Bernard Schaard and parents.

I was so very sorry to learn that Aunt Martha was so very ill and then what seemed so suddenly, she was gone. She had such a strong faith and wonderful spirit. We were all blessed to have had her in our midst. I know she will be deeply missed by all she knew.

It is with deepest shock and sorrow to hear about your dear Mother today at church. She was one of my very favorite people. She used to volunteer in the church office when I was a secretary there. We had so many wonderful talks and shared our faith with one another. She was the steward of the "Welcome Center" at church.
