Not sure what to say?

What a legacy of service, but above all a really kind person.

Martha made her mark on so many and I was lucky to to have learned so much from her. She lived with great passion and compassion. Our deepest condolences to Malcolm and all the family during this difficult time. Much love, Basia and Max

My deepest sympathies to Martha's family and colleagues. Her passing is great loss to so many. Martha and I were classmates at Wellesley College where we knew each other only slightly. But as the years went by we connected at various College reunions and found that many of our interests overlapped. Martha was a loyal donor to the Wellesley Centers for Women where I served as director for 25 years and we had great conversations about our shared interests in family planning and sex...

I had the pleasure of working with Martha at Venture Strategies and admired her knowledge and enjoyed her enthusiasm. I am sorry I did not get to know her better as I'm guessing both admiration and enjoyment would have continued to increase. In the future I hope to encounter people who she taught, and continue learning from her. My condolences to Malcolm and all the family.

I am so very sorry to hear about Martha´s passing. I have a lot of fond memories of her passion for family planning and women´s health, her lectures at UC Berkeley, and our time working together at Venture Strategies for Health and Development. Especially unforgettable was Martha´s exuberant energy to take on whatever obstacle needed to be overcome. I will be forever grateful to Martha for all her mentoring and support over many years. My deepest condolences to Malcolm and the family.

As a graduate student at Berkeley Martha gave me a summer job working with her at the Packard Foundation in 1999 which sent me off in directions that changed my career and life. Her optimism and dynamism, together with her commitment to family planning made her an inspiration. Her sense of humor and her pleasure in sly and wicked subversion made her a friend. I will miss her.

My condolences on your loss. I worked with Martha a bit in the aughts and have fond memories of sitting at her dinning room table in Berkeley, doing grant accounting. I always learned new things during those meetings. I hope you are comforted by the knowledge of how many people Martha influenced over the decades. In sympathy, Dana Charron.

Our condolences to the Ilers. I will miss Martha's energy and unrelenting pursuit of scale. Nap & Joyce
