Martha Nichols

Martha was my friend at Trinity Episcopal Church when I lived in Lawrence. I enjoyed her company very much. She was good-hearted, smart, and wise. I learned about Goucher College from her--and now I live in Baltimore and taught a few semesters at Goucher!

Martha Nichols was a wonderful example to all of us at Goucher. My condolences to her children and grandchildren. She was the only administrator whom I didn't fear when called to her office because she was so understanding. It's a real coincidence, but my mother Martha died in 2016 a few weeks before celebrating her 102nd birthday; she, like your Martha, was loved by all who knew her. Dean Nichols is the person who interviewed me as a prospective student for admission to Goucher. I remember liking her very much, and I guess she liked me too, because Goucher let me in. I was also the first recipient of the Martha Nichols Prize for Outstanding Service to the Goucher Community, an honor which I *still* include on my resume 42 years later.
