Martha was my first ballet teacher, when I was three years old. I have only a faint memory of her, but a positive one. All I can remember is being the moon

I loved taking her creative dance classes as a very young child. I think she was my first dance teacher~ special memories of the wonder of dancing as a cat and train in my black leotard. Thanks to Martha Nishitani for connecting me with a lifelong love of dance. I'm sorry not to have reconnected with her while she was still with us, but very happy to see her smile here.

I took modern dance from Martha starting at age 4 for 9 years. I will never forget her. I went back to see her when I was in college and she still remembered me. She will be greatly missed. She was one very special lady! I remember performing in the Opera with Martha's dance school--what an experience! Love you Martha! Elise (Eaton) Borden

I took modern dance classes from Martha when I was a young teenager. While my body was not very flexible, at least I took some comfort in the fact that Martha declared that I felt the music and the inspiration of what we were doing at the time, ie. being a leaf, etc. I never forgot those classes in the U District with her. I appreciate the patience and willingness she gave us to help us feel the movements.
